November is National Novel Writing Month, if you haven’t heard.
I’ve been participating since 2005, but I haven’t won, not even once. I blame academia.
This year is different, though. Yes, I have a brand new baby. Yes, I’m still in school. But this year, I have a kickass story idea, motivation, and the smallest smidgen of time (RyBread still sleeps quite a bit). Oh, and FRIENDS.
I have a theory that a supportive group of like-minded, caring individuals is the secret to getting published…
This year’s NaNo story is… well…complicated…
All I can really tell you is that there are three main characters – Becca, Tucker, and Shannon – and the story opens with a bright flash that was probably some kind of explosion. After they all wake up, they discover the power is out, there’s no radio or TV, and cell phones have no service. The story is going to be their “adventure,” if you will, trying to figure out how to navigate the world post-technology. I can’t really tell you what’s going to happen because only the characters know.
I’m really excited about it, and I’m constantly in their world, so I can wait to see where they are going to take me. I have a few goals I’m trying to reach, but I’m really leaving most everything up to them.
So, this is probably the last time you’ll hear from me until after November. Can’t be wasting words on blogging.
Happy NaNo-ing!
